Unemployment figures in Russia, cited by ITAR-TASS. Several points to consider - 5,727,000 unemployed amounts to 7.7 percent of the "economically active population" of Russia. The economically active population of Russia is estimated to be 73.9 million people as of February 2006 (51% of the Russian population). Average monthly nominal wages in Russia for February 2006 was approximately 9,106 rubles (approximately $328).


For comparison, the economically active population of the US is approximately 66.8% (1996 US Census), France is approximately 55.3%, Japan is 63.5%, and the UK is 62.44%.
